Handmade Holiday Shop!

so most of you already know, but for those of you who don’t, next month l’m going to be participating in a holiday shop! l’m so excited to be getting together with some of the most talented craftsters l know (l’m so intimidated right now) to sell our wares on november 12 in anaheim. we will be there from 1-8pm and there will be live music, tons of crafts and l hear some amazing baked goods! since this is the first (and hopefully it will become an annual tradition) sale l need your help in spreading the word!! so far we’ve created an event page on facebookyelp, and craftster

10% of the proceeds from all of the sales will benefit this charity http://www.mysafeharbor.org/

ok, now that l got that out of the way here are some progress shots of what l plan to sell!

these paper stars are awaiting their turn to become stitch markers to fill my knittingnotions tins! each of my tins are going to be decorated and filled with the essential tools for most knitting projects 🙂

these billows have already been featured on this blog, l’m still loving them. l’m contemplating buying more fabric to make more of them in the future (l just got a coupon for 25% my entire purchase at joann’s next week!!)

these next two scarves are knit with the best yarn from knitpicks. they are so delicate and soft, it seriously feels like l’m knitting a cloud. and because the yarn is so airy it actually traps in quite a bit of heat so these will be perfect to wear in layers, especially with our light winters here in ca 🙂

Finally, something knitted for Henry!

so for a while now poor Henry has been my only 2011 baby to not have anything hand knitted from me. call me a procrastinator, but I’m gonna say that it took me this long to find the cutest thing to make him! I love ravelry because I found the pattern for a GRUMPASAURUS!!! here is the link in case anyone else wants their own grumpasaurus

20111009-231112.jpg so I couldn’t resist taking progress shots, and at this point my little grumpy looks 1: asian and 2: like those green blobs from plants vs zombies that squish the zombies when they get too close!

y’know.. this guy :

so I had to hurry up and finish some appendages for him so he wouldn’t look so.. squash like.

then came the tail.. and this was a much longer tail than I had anticipated for such a short and stubby little fellow!

the spikey part was surprisingly the easiest part for me, it was my first time doing a cable cast on AND a picot bind off! thanks grupmy for teaching me something new 🙂

I’m not sure if I’ll ever attempt making a grumpy part 2, but if I do I will be sure to actually use the correct needle size. all the increases were difficult because I was too lazy to search my room for the larger needles as suggested in the pattern, I think I would’ve saved myself some headache. Lesson learned.. never go smaller on needle size!

Who wants to make a deal?!

B has invited me to participate in her holiday craft sale in November and to get my feet wet I decided to make a few Billows for sale. What’s a billow you ask?? It’s a pillow that unfolds into a blanket! I made a few of these for christmas gifts for my friends a few years back and everyone has always appreciated them, they’re so warm and inviting. Plus they’re easy to store since they fold into a compact pillow (well, as compact as you can fold a large fleece blanket..)

I went to Joann’s on a mission to find cute fabrics to make kid sized billows and I’m really happy with what I ended up going home with!

This is my group shot of the four billows I made. My favorite two are resting in front 🙂

as you can see this one features a light green/yellow combo on the fleece fabric and the pocket is such a cute design on cotton of animals. I almost want to keep this for myself!! I spread this out onto a regular twin sized bed to show the width/length and it’s a fairly large blanket, not quite long enough for me (and I am about 5’2″) but definitely wide enough to cover the bed.  I think what I love most about these blankets is the versatility of the pocket, you can keep it on the outside and use it to store toys or whatever while you’re sleeping, or you can sleep with it on the inside and use it as a foot warming pocket!

now this fabric is super cute.  I found the fleece fabric with the dinosaurs first and had to comb through the store to find the matching/complementing fleece.  As you can see the bottom fleece has this great design with a beautiful blue background while the top fleece is a nice bright orange to match!!

this was another case where I found the fleece pattern first and then decided to match the rest.  I love farm animals so I couldn’t resist!

and lastly, who can resist cute little birds?!? Plus I love the color combo of a chocolate brown with a deep pink 🙂

so right now I’m trying this out to sell on etsy, I only have on listed at the moment.  We’ll see how it does, or if there’s even any interest in it 🙂  wish me luck!! and feel free to comment to give me suggestions or any feedback!
